Where are we Lacing......India's performance in the Olympics

Yes, its great that India won 4 medals as of now with 3 bronze and 1 silver and yes we have gotten more medals than last year but realistically I mean we all clearly know that with our population and talent we could easily achieve more so the question to be asked is
Where are we lacking?
I just cannot fathom that countries like Belarus, Jamaica, Kazhakeistan have more medals than us. These are small countries whose population might be 1/4th of India's yet they manage to bring in more medals than us.
we are ranked 48th in the medal tally and yes if we want we can say look there are more countries below us with no or less medals but the real picture is that if we see ourselves as a major power then we have to see beyond that.
I was thinking why we cannot win more medals than this and why we are able to send just 81 athletes to Olympics so these are some of the reasons I came up with
More emphasis given to academics and discouraging sports
Politics
Lack of ability to spot talent and groom them
lack of self confidence so choke at the big stage
lack of training and encouragement (financial benefits)
for me the major point is the discouragement for pursuing sports. If parents and schools dont encourage kids to take up sports at the grass root level then later on they cannot and will not encourage their future to do the same.
I was seeing a feautre on Kenya and yesterday a kenyan athlete won the 800m and they showed his backgrowund. I was astounded, he is from the masabi tribe and they actually made a track in the farmlands and practice there day and night.
this shows that you dont need world class facilities to train.
One more major issue is not spotting talent and groom them. Its very important to go into every corner and spot talent and bring them on to the spotlight and train them. I mean I was watching the rowing heats and I was thinking that if we go into the nook and corners of Kerala, we could find an athlete who could have performed better and won.
Anyway, so want to know where are we lacking and why are we not able to produce more athletes and most of all win more medals. while I am proud that we won 4 medals, I am realistically dissapointed with our medal count and performance.

Who is your choice for next PM, Modi or Rahul Gandhi ?

With the Elections for the next PM coming up in 2014. The polls have already suggested that Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi are the eligible candidates for the PM race.

While one is new, inexperienced but young and dynamic with new ideas and carries the Gandhi family name. The other is experienced, known for being the best CM with regards to development but is known for the Godhra riots and is accused for being communal.

So who do you think is good for the country. Who according to you will do wonders for the country in terms of management and taking the country forward. Who will you support if asked to choose between the two?

Tell us who and why?

The Best thing that you Ever Ate ?

Happy New year to one and all. I am going to focus on my blogs again and hope to write more. Lets start the year 2012 on a lighter note with an interesting topic ..FOOD.

Inspired by Food Network's Best Thing I ever Ate, lets see what you come up with so c'mon people speak up

WHATS THE BEST THING YOU EVER ATE ?

It cannot be home cooked food . It has to be something that you ate outside in a restaurant.

Here's Mine

My favourite that comes up in my mind instantly are Bombay Chaat's Dry Gobi Manchurian. Its so delicious that my mouth waters even thinking about it. The restaurant is in NJ and serves chaat items and its so popular and jam packed that it just feels like being at home.

The Dry Gobi Manchurian is served sizzling hot with the cauliflowers covered in sauce and seasoned with onions and chillies. Its cooked perfectly and the tastes lasts forever. I have eaten in so many places in and outside India but Bombay Chaat's Dry Gobi Manchurian is the best ever...

Its your turn now, whats the best thing that you ever ate ?
